“Esther” is the story of a girl with two names; one hidden.
The story of two kings; one hidden.
A story of two decrees: one to destroy a people, the other to save a people.

That which is hidden comes to light in this new musical adaptation of the Biblical story of a Jewish orphan who becomes Queen to the Persian Emperor, King Ahasuerus (Xerxes), at a time when his reign has become plagued with political intrigue, plots of sabotage and genocide that threaten the unity of the Empire.

Rehearsals will begin in early September at the New Life Ministry Center on Thursdays (7–9:30 pm) and Saturdays (9-12:30 pm). Mondays will be utilized for dance practice and some specific lead role scenes as needed. Please note that Thursday Rehearsals will run from 7–10 pm starting in November, and Saturday Rehearsals will be extended to run from 9–2 pm with a lunch break.

Tech Rehearsals, Dress Rehearsals, and Performances at the Groton-Dunstable Performing Arts Center will take place in December, but the schedule is still developing. Please plan for two full weeks before the first show; this information will be conveyed as soon as it is known.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE AUDITION

(Please note that auditions will be videotaped for the production team’s reference.)

  1. Practice and be prepared to sing “Great is the Lord (Lift Your Name On High”)
(click here for sheet music) and “Hail Lord Haman” (click here for sheet music). You can either sing melody or the alternate written harmonies (alto, tenor, or bass).
  2. Pick a scene appropriate to your gender, age, etc. from the Audition Packet and Role Chart and become familiar with that part and be prepared to read it (Memorization is a plus, but not mandatory). You may be asked to read an alternate part.

*Cast scheduling information, including time commitments for rehearsals and production week leading up to the performances, can be found on the Audition Form though some scheduling is subject to change or still being developed.
